Battle of Britain Memorial

Before departing for France and Belgium the group – pupils from Midhurst Intermediate School, West Sussex – visited the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, near Dover. The Memorial is made up of a statue of a lone airman sitting at the centre of three propeller blades, and looking out to sea. It commemorates the 2,927 Allied airmen who defended Britain from German invasion in the summer of 1940, following the fall of France at the start of the Second World War.
